Powertex - What is It?

Powertex is a fabric hardener, an environmentally friendly water-based alternative to acryic. You can use it for artwork, statues, paintings and jewelry.

Powertex is a hardener for all absorbent and natural materials such as textiles, paper cardboard, leather, plush and fiberglass. Powertex easily mixes with sand and wood powder to create structures.

Combine it with Stone Art powder to create a unique self-hardening modeling paste.

Powertex adheres to most materials except plastic. Plastic sheeting makes a great work surface and can be used in special sculpting applications for temporary supports and separations.

Powertex comes in different colors such as Bluish Grey (lead color), Bronze, Terra Cotta, Ivory and Green, ready to use, and Transparent.

Powertex transparent is milky white and dries almost matte and clear once it is hardened, which allows you to maintain the original color and pattern of the fabric.

It is easy so create your own Powertex color by using our PowerColor pigments. Use a little water and stir well so the pigments dissolve, to then stir it into the Powertex Transparent or Ivory for varying transparency and saturatio.

Brigitte GradeIn the example on the left, a frame was made using armature wire taped together togethedr. The frame is then covered witaluminum foil forming the body and wrapped from top to bottom with masking tape.

Stips of T-shirt fabric was dipped into Powertex and the excess Powertex squeezed out to a damp dry state. The fabric was wrapped around the frame. You should allow the different stages to dry a little before adding embellishments.

Here objects and fabric were adhered to the frame with powertex and finished out with same techniques as the background frame.

It was fiished with Easy Varnish and color pigments. Powercolor was mixed with a small amount of varnish and brushed on to the desired areas.

Acrylic paint can also be used over dry Powertex.

When completely dry it was made water-repellent by finishing it with Easy Varnish

Combined with Stone Art powder one can create a unique self-hardening modeling paste (no oven needed).

There is no other product on the market which is so versatile: Once you know how to work with it you can create anything!
